Zoeller 1/2 HP Sump Pump
It’s almost Spring and the picture above is what I hope will prevent below. Water is starting to fill one of the two sump pits I now have, but I have high hopes that the 1/2 horse power Zoeller sump pump will save the day. It’s built like a tank. More to come…

A tower fan makes a futile attempt to keep the floor dry...this seemed bad at first.
The original sump pump, not sure how old but I think Sears still sells this style of pump. At this point the pump ran nonstop doing its best to pump as much water as possible.
Water begins to win the battle, the sump pump is completely overwhelmed. I remember when this happened, I felt rather relieved as I knew there was nothing I could do. No more fighting the inevitable, time to go upstairs and think about how to get out of this mess. Things are about to get worse...
It didn't take too long to get into this situation, but don't think that pump wasn't still going! (If only I had what I have now...)
- A lonely utility pump tries to help… one thing I can recall is the water temperature…it must have been in the 40′s and it didn’t take long for your toes to hurt.
- The dryer was placed on some plastic shelving. Obviously it wasn’t high enough, but the dryer works just fine today.
The heating system was the biggest concern. We attempted to form a barricade with bags of sand and towels. Worked for a while, but eventually water wins. When everything cleared my friend came over and disassembled the burner to remove trapped water. Afterwards we fired up the boiler and it started no problem, but then it appeared as if smoke started to seep out. Turns out it was just steam and everything was okay, the boiler and burner survived, although the burner bit the dust about six months later.
